Our Course
The classroom at the Professional Bartending Institute of Greensboro is, indeed, a real bar with all the latest equipment. The first part of every class is a lecture/demonstration and the instructor will actually prepare the drinks in that chapter so the student learns the correct glassware, recipe, mixing method and garnish for every drink. After the lecture, we dim the lights and turn up the music to get just the right ambiance. Then it is time for the students to get behind the bar and practice.
Approximately seventy-five percent of the student’s time will be hands-on, behind the bar, training. Our classroom is always available for extra practice and/or study time for the student that wants it, and a highly trained staff member is always available to answer any questions.
Because we train with only simulated products and no “real” alcohol, the most frequent question we get is, “How do we know it’s right if we don’t taste it?” If you think about it, your bartender never tastes the cocktail before he serves it to you either!
We, as trainers, know by observing the student if the drink is made correctly. It’s all in the preparation….having a cocktail with perfect balance and structure.
At the Professional Bartending Institute of Greensboro we can train you in just forty hours to make over 150 perfect drinks, from memory, before you graduate. Our students can perfectly prepare and serve, not only the traditional cocktails such as the Martini, but also local and trendy drinks such as the Sex on the Beach as well.
Lessons
Each student at the Professional Bartending Institute of Greensboro receives the Professional Bartending Schools of America copyrighted textbook. This is a very structured and easy to use textbook.
We start new classes every week. The afternoon and evening classes are different and are designed so the student can graduate in either one or two weeks. The weekend class is the same as our accelerated class, with the only difference being the hours taught.
We always start with Martinis or Cream drinks, depending on afternoon or evening schedules. These are easy cocktails to prepare and the student gets familiar with the equipment behind the bar immediately.
By the second class, the student learns to free pour (no measuring device!) and, depending on afternoon or evening class, will learn shooters and layered drinks such as the American Flag and/or tall drinks such as the Long Island Iced Tea and the Zombie.
Our third lessons, depending on afternoon or evening class, will include popular Highballs and After Dinner drinks and/or Two Ounce Cocktails and Sours and Margaritas.
Our fourth lessons, depending on afternoon or evening class, will be devoted to our Beer, Wine and Fruit Cutting class and/or our Alcohol Awareness class.
